Open Data Iniciatives

The Open Data Initiative is a targeted approach of public authorities intended to release their informational resources for the public use. It is closely connected with the open government initiative which notifies the political will to advance transparency and re-use of public sector information.

Open Data Initiatives haven’t been developed widely in the municipalities of the EU, but at the same time this is a challenging and valuable direction that should be followed in the future. The general position is that Open Data Initiatives should be prioritized in the municipality since it creates transparency, makes the services more efficient and supports the business community. Moreover, it should be prioritized at a national level – so that data could easily be integrated and shared across the municipalities.

Most common open databases are a GIS-based databases, thematic maps, statistical publications, library databases.
